Skinesthics: Connecting Skin back to Health

How important is the skin your in?... Have you heard, beauty is only skin deep, well dare to dig deeper! In my experience the study of skin has only been addressed topically unless dealing with a severe skin condition. I have personally witnessed and have had multiple discussions with persons who've had their own experiences with skin specialists. It always seems to resolve the same- a prescription of a topical and/or an oral treatment to manage symptoms. This method only temporarily addresses the issue; it doesn't prevent reoccurring episodes because the root of cause was never addressed. Skin wellness must be confronted holistically. Your skin's conditions depends on approximately 80-90 percent of your body's internal factors and 10-20 percent toward external factors.

The scope of skin care has been limited to cosmetics because skin services has been primarily focused on superficial treatment (appearance). This industry has been saturated by treatments tending to symptoms, neglecting the focus of internal triggers that perhaps are primarily due to nutrition and diet. I am sure you've heard, "You are what you eat." But what if we can kill two birds with one stone by taking a proactive preventative approach. Suppose the field of dermatology, broadened their scope of interest, becoming a branch of your overall health and wellness; just like a gynecologist visit. Skin care should be not just about how you look, it should also be about how you feel.
